Xie ( 寫 ) means "to write" and Yi ( 意 ) the "meaning or mind". Master Zhang Da-Chian said that Xie Yi ( 寫意 ) indicated the fact of drawing the spirit of the beings. Paintings in Xieyi manners and styles use many techniques of calligraphy which privilege the spontaneity of the line and composition. Xieyi is thus very quickly carried out but it needs more mature experiences and insights.
